A note before you read: we make Posto, so we're not neutral. We've tried to be fair anyway. Every fact about Stockroom below comes from its Shopify App Store listing, checked on October 2, 2026, and we say plainly where Stockroom is the better choice.

The short version

Choose Stockroom if you want one free app for purchase orders, receiving, stock counts, transfers, labels, and making your own products, especially if you use QuickBooks or Xero. Choose Posto if the hard part is deciding what to reorder and how much, and you want to see exactly why, with each supplier's rules applied for you.

What it costs

  • Stockroom: free, with unlimited purchase orders and suppliers. Its QuickBooks and Xero sync runs through MyWorks, the company that makes Stockroom.
  • Posto: free for 1 supplier and 50 products, $19 a month for up to 5 suppliers, and $39 a month for unlimited. Every feature on every plan, with a 30-day free trial.

If price decides it, Stockroom wins. The better question is what you need the app to decide for you.

Where Stockroom is ahead

  • Price. It's free.
  • Breadth. Stock counts with your team, adjustments with an audit trail, transfers, returns to suppliers, and barcode and price labels. Posto doesn't do counts, transfers, or labels.
  • Making products. Bills of materials and builds, for brands that assemble what they sell.
  • Accounting and POS. QuickBooks and Xero sync through MyWorks, plus purchasing and receiving on Shopify POS.
  • Locations. One purchase order can be sent to several locations.
  • AI assistants. You can connect Claude or ChatGPT to ask about your stock and costs.
  • Badge. Built for Shopify, launched in July 2026. Posto is new.

Where Posto goes further

  • Forecasting is the core. Posto forecasts every product from your recent sales, leaves stockout days out of demand, and builds in Black Friday and the holiday peak. Stockroom's listing mentions predictive reorders and forecasting but doesn't describe how they're calculated.
  • Math you can check. Every Posto recommendation shows its working: lead time, days of cover, safety stock, and what's already on hand and on order.
  • Supplier rules, applied for you. Quantities round up to each supplier's minimum and case pack.
  • Your customers stay private. Stockroom's listing shows access to customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, and physical addresses. Posto never reads customer names, emails, addresses, or payment details, because reordering doesn't need them.
  • Less to learn. Posto does one job, so there's less to set up.

What they share

Both create purchase orders and email them to suppliers as PDFs, receive full and partial deliveries, track landed cost, send low-stock alerts, and help you move from Stocky.
